On July 11, 2024, China Standard Time, the SAC released a message. The six national casting standards that will be implemented on April 25, 2024. This casting standard is managed by the SAC.

The new standards cover all aspects of casting materials and casting processes, and provide comprehensive guidance in production and manufacturing, technical requirements, inspection and testing methods and rules, as well as other related processes. The significance of these standards is to improve product quality and production efficiency of industrial castings in various industries.

Here are the details of the six new standards:

Standard Number Standard Name Standard Content
GB/T 8492—2024 “Heat-resistant Steel and Alloy Castings for General Purposes” This document stipulates the manufacturing, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules and marking, quality certificates, packaging, storage and transportation of general-purpose heat-resistant steel and alloy castings.

This document applies to general-purpose heat-resistant steel and alloy castings used under high-temperature working conditions. Other types of heat-resistant steel and alloy castings can also be implemented by reference.

GB/T 9442—2024 “Silica Sand for Foundry” This document stipulates the classification and brand, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, marking, transportation and storage of silica sand for foundry.

This document applies to silica sand used for molding and core making in foundry production, including washed sand, scrubbed sand, selected sand, roasted sand and other natural silica sand and artificial silica sand.

GB/T 13818—2024 “Die-cast zinc alloy” This document stipulates the grades and codes, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules and signs, quality certificates, packaging, transportation and storage of die-cast zinc alloys.

This document applies to the production and inspection of die-cast zinc alloys.

GB/T 14408—2024 “Low Alloy Steel Castings for General Engineering and Structural Use” This document stipulates the manufacturing, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking and quality certificates, casting protection, packaging, transportation and storage of low alloy steel castings for general engineering and structural use.

This document applies to the production, inspection and delivery acceptance of low alloy steel castings for general engineering and structural purposes.

GB/T 15115—2024 “Die-cast aluminum alloy” This document stipulates the grades and codes, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules and signs, quality certificates, packaging, transportation and storage of die-cast aluminum alloys.

This document applies to the production and inspection of die-cast aluminum alloy materials (aluminum alloy liquid and aluminum alloy ingots).

GB/T 43920—2024 “General Technical Specifications for Centralized Smelting and Distribution of Liquid Aluminum for Die Casting” This document stipulates the process specifications, technical requirements, inspection methods and inspection rules for centralized smelting and distribution of die-cast aluminum alloy melt.

This document is applicable to the centralized smelting and distribution of die-cast aluminum alloy melt.

Experts in the foundry industry have welcomed the implementation of this standard. Experts have repeatedly emphasized the far-reaching significance of this standard in improving the quality of casting products. Yihao Wang, Vice President of Dawang Metals, said: “The new standards will help manufacturers in the foundry industry improve the quality of casting products. Especially for manufacturing companies integrating industry and trade, the new standards will well meet the growing needs of the international market.”

auto Casting 2

We believe that the new national casting standards specifying two materials, heat-resistant steel alloy castings and low-alloy steel castings, have effectively improved product quality and durability. In addition, the GB/T 9442-2024 standard has more detailed and strict requirements for silica sand used in casting. There are detailed requirements in many aspects including classification grades, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, transportation and storage. This has greatly improved our production standards and made our production process more standardized.

Judging from the standard version and release date, GB/T 8492-2014 was released on September 3, 2014, and began implementation on June 1, 2015. GB/T 8492-2024 is updated and released in 2024, replacing the GB/T 8492-2014 standard.

In terms of technical content, GB/T 8492-2024 has undergone some important technical adjustments and editorial modifications compared to GB/T 8492-2014. Specifically, GB/T 8492-2024 adds new definitions of “major defects” and “welding grooves” (see Chapter 3). In addition, although other specific technical changes are not listed in detail, it can be inferred that the standard may be improved and improved in test methods, inspection rules and certain technical requirements.

The new national foundry standards will effectively standardize the production processes and product quality of domestic foundries and contribute to the productivity improvement of my country’s foundry industry. It will also be of great help to the export business of the foundry products. The SAC plans to continue updating and introducing new standards in the future to keep up with technological advancements and industry needs.
