Sand casting uses a sand mold with a cavity to pour molten metal in. Sand casting is better suited for larger valve components. Unlike lost wax castings, it has the largest casting weight of 2 tons. However, it requires more machining allowance for the subsequent machining operations.
Investment casting is a traditional metal casting method, suitable for producing complex cast steel valve, such as butterfly and ball valves. Investment casting can ensure excellent dimensions, tolerances, and surfaces.
Permanent mold casting or gravity die casting, utilizes metal molds. The mold casting molds can be used repeatedly. It is commonly used to craft valve components from non-ferrous metals. Brass and aluminum alloys are often chosen. The reusable molds make production cost-effective. This process is essential for maintaining consistent quality. Permanent mold casting has a faster production rate compared to investment casting.For types of valves mentioned above produced by valve sand casting and valve investment casting, permanent mold casting can also be chosen if the volume is large and consistency is needed.
